U.S. Soccer Redemption

U.S. Soccer Redemption

Word Count: 300
Eight players from the U.S. women's soccer team after the loss to Japan.
The U.S. women’s soccer team got to the world cup last year. The U.S. had already won two world cups, but could not quite pull out the victory last year. They lost in the final to Japan. Although this could be viewed as a bad loss, it should be seen as just a small mistake, because they lost the game in penalty kicks, not during the "actual" game. Now the U.S. women’s team is going to this year’s Summer Olympics in London. Japan will also be in the Olympics, creating a possible rematch of last year’s world cup. It has not yet been decided if the gold medal game will be Japan vs. U.S.A. but “If form holds, they will meet in the gold medal game.” Although the U.S. lost in the world cup, this should not be a problem for them to win in this possible rematch.

The only reason the U.S. lost last year was because of a few missed penalty kicks after the tied game. The U.S. should have no problem with beating Japan’s team if they do in fact meet in the gold medal match. The U.S. is expected to do very well in the tournament “Should the United States lose its opener (as it did four years ago in Beijing before going on to win the gold medal),it is still expected to advance.” Last year’s loss should not be used to predict the outcome of this year’s Olympics, the U.S. team has been practicing, and working hard to improve to get ready for this year’s Olympics. Should the two teams meet again, the U.S. will have something to prove, and will have an extra reason to win the game, to redeem themselves. If the teams meet in a rematch in the gold medal game at the Summer Olympics, it should not be viewed as a problem for the U.S. because the U.S. has a great chance at winning the game.
