Boys vs Girls who knows more?

By Julia Kavalieros

 Budget cut are affecting schools everywhere, and students are most affected. Although there are a number of students who are aware of this situation, it seems as though most of them don't really care. Humanities teacher Mrs. Dietrich says "It all depends on the student and their family. I think they should be aware though of how much their class is going to change by next year because they are the ones who will be ultimately affected."

I conducted an experiment to see just how aware students know about the situation.
I asked them these three questions;

What do you know about the budget cuts?

How will it change our school the following year?

And finally, Who knows more Boys or girls?

6/10 students said girls knew more on budget cuts than guys
I knew this would bring up some debate and here is the outcome; I asked 10 people, 5 girls and 5 boys. Four out of five girls said they knew more than boys. The other 1 said it's about equal. Then I asked the guys. Two of the boys said girls and the other said boys. The other two boys were completely unaware of what is going on, they didn't even know what it is!

I asked one person individually from each gender what they thought about the debate and their reasons why for voting the way they did.

 Maddie Raleigh from Orange hall said, "Girls are totally more aware than boys. All boys care about is sports, and if they are nerds homework and calculators."

Next I asked AJ Hart from Red Hall and surprisingly enough he said almost the same thing! He said, "Girls definitely. Guys only really pay attention to sports and girls. Girls are more caring and stuff".

Why are girls more aware of this topic? Statistics have shown that girls mature faster there for, pay more attention to topics such as this one. That is why girls know more on this topic compared to boys. Sorry Guys but it seems as though girls win this round!

  1. Julia, you did a nice job personalizing an interesting & hot topic in Oregon's educational environment. I really appreciate how you included the statistical information about girls maturating sooner than boys.
