Muslim man with labels on his face
Thousands of people go through the airport every year, but it seems like only Muslim people are singled out. What was their crime you ask? Their only “crime” was flying while they were Muslim.
Some would say that airports have a good reason to single out Arab looking people, because of terrorists attacks. But just because someone looks a certain way, doesn’t mean that they are who we assume they are. It’s like the old saying, don’t judge a book by it’s cover. People shouldn’t judge a man or woman by what they wear, how they talk, or how they look, but by their actions.
Even though many people feel that racial profiling is wrong, many people don’t stand up for the Arab people, even when airport security is singling out innocent Arabs. Airport security treats Muslim people unlike other people and although some Muslim people have been terrorists, it doesn’t mean every Muslim is. Some Americans have robbed banks, but not every American is a burglar. This should be the case for all people, but airline security sees it like every Muslim is a threat and should be treated like one.
An anonymous student at Stoller middle school witnessed racism at an airport first hand, they saw an airport security guard take a woman into a curtained room and be patted down. There was no reason for this woman to undergo higher security checks than others, but she was still forced to. She was found tagged as a threat, and treated like one, and not an average woman.
Many Innocent Muslim men and women are forced to go through extra security every year, but the airline security doesn’t care. They just label someone the second they walk into the airport. It doesn’t matter how kind they are or how much they pay, all it matters to them is how they look.
In the end, Muslim people who did not commit a crime, but were simply classified by airport security, like objects. That is not right and although some would say it is understandable, it just isn't fair.
