Amare Stoudemire Done for the First Round (Hand)

Amare Stoudemire Done for the First Round (Hand)

Amare Stoudemire
The squeak of the basketball shoes rubbing against the gym floor. The roar of the fans when you swish that shot that you have been practicing for weeks. The thud, thud, thud of the ball as you dribble down the court leading the fast break. The look of frustration on the other teams face when you blow by every single player. What could be better to a basketball player? Especially when you come off an eighteen point game with seven rebounds like Amare Stoudemire did against the runner-up, the Miami Heat.

Feeling like a champion lasts forever unless you are the loser of an important game against any team. Amare Stoudemire from the New York Knicks felt this way until it settled in that they lost 104-94 in game 2 of the playoffs. The Heat leading the series 2-0. Frustration took over Amare and he couldn’t hold it in.

Just minutes after the Knicks loss Stoudemire punched the glass case that was holding a fire extinguisher. He punched it out of pure frustration. Amare Stoudemire suffered laceration on the inside of his hand by his pinkie.

He says “I just walked, by wanted to make some noise, swung my arm, hit the fire extinguisher door and didn’t even realize I was cut.”

Even though he didn’t even know that he was cut Amare will have to sit out game 3 and maybe game 4 of the 2012 playoffs. Things haven’t been going very good for Amare Stoudemire. He has struggled with his shot off and on, his brother died recently and he has had back pains in previous seasons.

Amare Stoudemire left Miami on Monday heavily bandaged and rapped. His main message was:

“I was upset for myself. I was feeling bad for my teammates.”

  1. Great article Maddie. You did a nice job contextualizing the story, though I would like to have heard more about his struggles in the past year.
