The fascinating, art piece, by Edvard Munch.
   1895 Pastel ‘The Scream’, Sold

By: Dulce Sanabria

The trembling bidders are anxiously waiting for the lucky new owner of the amazing, 1895 pastel artwork, ‘The Scream’, by Edvard Munch, to be announced. The bidding session lasted 12 dreading, long minutes.
The bid had a start price of $40M. That was just the starting price! There were seven bidders in total. The seven competitors kept on raising their offerings for the artwork until finally, the price ended at $120M. The winner of the auction is anonymous but, according to the source I got my information from, the version sold was the most colorful.
This version, out of all the four, was said to be the only version to include a poem on the frame about the his inspiration. One of the lines from the poem read “I was walking along a path with two friends - the sun was setting - suddenly the sky turned blood red - I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence - there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city.”
The previous record for the price an art piece was sold for at auction, was $106.5M. This was Picasso’s ‘Nude’, ‘Green Leaves’, and ‘Bust’. These were sold in 2010, but as you can see, ‘The Scream’ broke that record with flying colors. ‘The Scream’ didn’t only break that astonishing record but is now, the 8th most expensive piece of art!
Many people are fans of this colorful, full of expression pastel. The person hosting the auction, Tobias Meyer, boasted that the work the auction was held for was “ Worth every penny”.

  1. Dulce, way to go with equalizing the sale of Munch's "The Scream". I think that you could have added more discussion about the other painting to enhance to gravity the sale of this painting.
